GEORGIA SENATORS ENDORSE JOHN MCCAIN

U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that Senator Saxby Chambliss and Senator Johnny Isakson have endorsed John McCain for president.

"I have known John McCain for many years," said Georgia's senior U.S. Senator, Saxby Chambliss. "We have worked together, and from time to time, we have had some disagreements over policy. The willingness to disagree is what good leadership is about. John McCain is a strong-willed man, but he listens. Throughout the course of this election process we have had a number of good men vying for the Republican nomination, but now is the time for us to narrow the field and get behind the one candidate who can unite our party and win in November. John McCain can and will win in November, no matter which person the Democrats nominate. America is at war, and the ongoing war on terrorism will be a major factor in this presidential election as well as in the next president's term. I am here to tell all Georgians and all Americans that based on all the factors and qualifications, I for one will be proud to call John McCain commande r in chief."

Senator Isakson added, "The most important duty of the president and the Congress is to protect the people of the United States of America. I don't believe there is anybody better equipped to keep America secure than John McCain. Not only is John McCain the right choice to protect our country, but he also is the right choice to protect our pocketbook. John McCain was a fiscal hawk before it became popular. He has always been for stopping wasteful spending, and as president he will be able to do so with his pen."

John McCain thanked Senators Chambliss and Isakson for their support, saying, "During my time in the senate, I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know Saxby and Johnny. They are both men of tremendous character. Their hard work on behalf of the people of Georgia has earned them the admiration and respect of their colleagues and constituents. I am honored to have their support, and I look forward to their counsel in the days and weeks ahead."
In 1966, Saxby Chambliss earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Law in 1968. On November 5, 2002, Saxby Chambliss was elected Georgia's 63rd United States Senator. He currently serves as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Rules Committee, and he is the Ranking Republican Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Senator Chambliss and his wife, Julianne, have been married since 1966, and reside in Moultrie, Georgia. They have two children and two grandchildren.

For 22 years, Johnny Isakson served as President of Northside Realty. Senator Isakson was member of the Georgia General Assembly for 17 years, and he served for three years as Chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. In 1999, Johnny was elected to the United States House of Representatives for his first of three terms before being elected to the United States Senate in November of 2004. Johnny and his wife, Dianne, have three children and four grandchildren.
