GA Legislative Alert - Immediate action request on English as Official Language

Representaive Bearden (District 68) has proposed a constitutional amendment, H.R. 413, that declares English as the official language of Georgia.

If H.R. 413 passes, official state actions would be done in English, meaning no law, ordinance, decree, program or policy of Georgia could require the use of language other than English. Also, H.R. 413 protects the treatment of everyone that speaks only English. They would be eligible for all state programs, benefits and opportunities, including state jobs. However, everyone would be free to use other languages in private.

If H.R. 413 passes, it would be on the ballot in the November General Election. Voters would answer "yes" or "no" to this question: "Shall the constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that English is the official language of the State of Georgia?" If a majority of voters vote "Yes," a new Paragraph X, entitled English as Official Language, would be added to Article 1, Section II of the Constitution of the State of Georgia.

Please call Non-Civil Judiciary Chairman Representative Ralston at 404-656-5943 and Vice Chairman Representative Robert Mumford at 404-656-0254 and ask them to pass this out of committee. Georgians have the right to vote on such an important issue. In fact, the future of our culture, most likely, depends on whether English, actually, is used as our official language.
